First Sorrow

A trapeze artist set up her life so that she could stay on her trapeze day and night. But one day she discovered that one trapeze was no longer sufficient: “Only this one pole in my hands – how can I live?”

With Franz Kafka and Jean Genet’s circus literature, Jana Korb explores the existentialism of aerial artistry – the art of aerial artistry. She immerses herself with circus in literature and transforms this into a theatrical performance in the circus. Narration is the point of departure from which she develops her artistic corporeality. It is about dependencies, lack of compromise and the eternally provisional – high up on the trapeze.
